How do I close my Updraft account?

Updated over a week ago

We're sorry to see you go. If you've decided to close your Updraft account, this guide will walk you through the necessary steps.

Important: You must have a £0 loan balance

Before we can process an account closure, you must have a £0 balance with no active Updraft loan.

If you have an outstanding balance, you will need to repay your loan in full first. You can find your outstanding balance and request a 'settlement figure' (the exact amount needed to clear your loan) directly within the Updraft app.

How to request account closure

Once you have confirmed your balance is £0, the easiest way to close your account is directly in the app.

  1. Log in to your Updraft app.

  2. Navigate to the 'Profile' section (the icon in the bottom-right corner).

  3. Scroll down to the very bottom and tap 'Close Updraft Account'.

  4. You will be asked to confirm your decision.

If you run into any errors or cannot see this option, please contact our support team through the secure in-app chat, and they will be happy to assist.

If you are unable to access the app at all, you can email your request to support@updraft.com from your registered email address.

What happens after your account is closed?

Please be aware of the following consequences of closing your account:

  • Loss of Access: You will no longer be able to log in to the Updraft app.

  • Access to Information: You will lose access to all in-app features, including your historical statements, transaction data, and your free credit report. We recommend downloading any statements you need for your records before you request closure.

  • Data Retention: Closing your account does not mean your data is immediately deleted. As a regulated financial firm, we are legally required by the FCA to retain your customer data for a specific period (typically six years after the relationship ends) for compliance and regulatory purposes. After this mandatory period, your data will be securely and permanently deleted.

Thank you for being an Updraft customer.
