How can I change my name?

Updated this week

We understand you may need to update your name due to marriage, divorce, or a legal name change by deed poll.

As an FCA-regulated financial company, the name on your Updraft account must always match your current legal name. This ensures consistency with your credit file and prevents identity fraud.

Why we require official documentation

Your legal name is a core part of your financial identity.

To comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, we must verify any name change with official documentation.

This step protects you from identity theft and ensures the accuracy of your credit and loan records.

How to request a name change

The process is handled securely by our support team.

Step 1: Prepare your documentation

Before you contact us, please have a clear digital copy (a high-quality photograph or a scan) of your official name change document ready.

Acceptable documents include:

  • A marriage certificate.

  • An enrolled deed poll.

  • A decree absolute, which must be provided alongside your birth certificate.

Documents must clearly show your full legal name and be issued by an authorised body.

Step 2: Contact Us Securely

The easiest and safest way to request the change is through the in-app chat.

  1. Log in to the Updraft app

  2. Go to Profile or Help

  3. Start a chat and let our team know you want to update your legal name

If you cannot access the app, email support@updraft.com from your registered email address.

What Happens Next?

  • Our team will explain how to securely upload your supporting document

  • We’ll review it and ask a few quick security questions to confirm your identity
Once verified, we’ll update your name across all systems.

  • You’ll receive confirmation once the update is complete

We aim to complete name change requests as quickly as possible, though processing times can vary depending on verification requirements.
